Augmented Reality Artwork
Not for Sale
All life-forms are processes. In this self-portrait, the artist is represented by her body, the land she occupies, and the parasitic fungus, Ophiocordyceps. A traditional endless knot hovers, alluding to the cycle of rebirth in Buddhist teachings from her upbringing. Created for the Pieces of Me exhibition, Autophagy is a celebration of fungibility against the frantic manufacturing of scarcity and promises of ownership. What can we honor by declaring Not For Sale?
Alice 元 Zhang is an immigrant who likes to make homes in AR filters, browsers, and communities. She furnishes them with dreams of post-capitalism, phone lines to interspecies neighbors, and tools for time travel—opening the door for playful ancestors of the future.
