My Candle Collection is a continuation of the piece, it just smells like literally like you're sitting on the beach drinking a margarita and you're loving your life and you're super rich and like you own a yacht (2020). The prior work was a tangible display of handmade candles made to be picked up, smelled and interacted with the way one would in a Home Goods or TJ Maxx. The piece was taken down after two weeks due to the pandemic and has been locked away, unable to be touched or smelled, in the artist's home. My Candle Collection attempts to encapsulate and describe the smell of each candle, something that can't be sensed through virtual means. Fragrance is linked to memory but also aspiration. Soda uses the style of candle collection YouTube videos, which inspired the original physical piece.

Molly Soda is a visual artist working in video, installation, interactive art, performance and print media. Her work is often hosted online, specifically on social media platforms, allowing the work to evolve and interact with the platforms themselves. Soda engages with questions of revisiting one’s own virtual legacy, how we present ourselves and perform for imagined others online and how the ever shifting nature of our digital space affects our memories and self concept.

The artist will perform a LIVE candle auction. Bidders can tweet their bids @ Molly Soda, and the bid timestamped just before the candle goes out is the winner. Winning bidder gets a package from TRANSFER gallery containing the work, along with the option to mint this work as NFT with left.gallery.
